Here in Nassau County 4-H, we do more than do “things”.

We create intentional and impactful programs for our county’s youth through cooperative opportunities, events, contests, clubs, and more. Being a member here means you’re part of something bigger than simply a project. Members explore a variety of projects such as agriculture, STEM, health, and civic engagement that are guided by adult mentors to develop life skills, leadership, and community involvement.

What is a Nassau County 4-H member? What are the expectations?

Being enrolled in the 4-H Online system, by Sept 1 each year
- If ages 8+, pay the additional $20 annual membership fee. Cloverbuds are free!
- Select a project area that reflects your primary interests or project for the year, but is not confined to what you select
- Enroll in your club(s) and programs through the system for accurate club rosters
Follows the Code of Conduct at all times
Being engaged in a minimum of 6 hours of project work
Attend a minimum of 75% of scheduled club meetings. Being an active club members helps foster quality relationships with peers and adults. This component of membership is foundational to the mission of 4-H in how we aim to develop youth with a sense of belonging as well as project support through a long-term engagement. Although Club Leaders make effort to remind members of upcoming dates, responsibility of attendance falls on the member and their family. Clubs will often use multiple outlets to remind members of key dates, meetings, projects, etc so families should make efforts to stay up to date on attendance needs or reach out to club leaders/agents directly for information. Clubs may also offer extra events or meetings that are important to attend where possible to maximize connection with their fellow members..Attendance records are completed at sign in and submitted to agents monthly.
- Members may join multiple clubs and change clubs at anytime without penalty. However, attendance is still mandatory for each club. If members change/leave clubs, they must have this edited in their 4-H Online profile. It is best practice to communicate with your agents for these changes, so if needed, they can help with any transition needs.
- Members “At Large” or Independent must have a plan in place with the 4-H Agent(s) and check in throughout the year to assess progress towards project or membership goals.

Not required but highly recommended!

Attend the annual banquet and holiday party each year
Compete in at least 1 event for County Events
Complete a member report, project book, and/or record book
Attend or help lead camps or funshops
Participate in events at the County Fair
Attend State Level 4-H opportunities
Contribute to at least 1 community service project
Run for officer positions
Use leadership skills through mentoring peers as well as being a mentee yourself!
Attend or contribute to the Nassau County 4-H Association
