The selection of a sugarcane cultivar that eventually becomes a production success is probably due in equal parts to the cultivar's attributes, word of mouth, gut feeling, and luck. Each fact sheet in this series provides a description of the cultivar and a table of identifying attributes to use as the basis for selection.

Energycane Cultivar Descriptive Fact Sheet: UFCP 74-1010

Amandeep Sharma, Simranjot Kaur, andHardev Sandhu

Energycane is a high-fiber sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) that is considered as a dedicated feedstock for lignocellulosic ethanol production. The energycane cultivar UFCP 74-1010 was developed through collaborative research between the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Canal Point, FL, and the UF/IFAS Everglades Research and Education Center at Belle Glade. This fact sheet discusses different attributes related to this cultivar’s yield and disease resistance, which may assist growers and the biofuel industry to make an informed decision on cultivation and management of this cultivar. Written by Amandeep Sharma, Simranjot Kaur, and Hardev Sandhu, and published by the UF/IFAS Department of Agronomy, October 2025.

Sugarcane Cultivars Descriptive Fact Sheet: 'CPCL 97-2730' and 'CPCL 00-4111'

Hardev Sandhu and Wayne Davidson

The purpose of this fact sheet is to provide basic information and yield and disease information about CPCL 97-2730 and CPCL 00-4111 to assist growers in decision-making on further expansion of these cultivars.

Sugarcane Cultivar Descriptive Fact Sheet: CPCL 02-6848 and CPCL 05-1201

Hardev Sandhu and Wayne Davidson

CPCL 02-6848 and CPCL 05-1201 are emerging sugarcane cultivars in Florida. Both cultivars were released commercially in 2012 and were quickly adopted by local sugarcane growers because of high yields and moderate to high resistance against major sugarcane diseases in Florida. This 4-page fact sheet provides basic information and yield and disease information to assist growers in management of these cultivars.
